Alberta Warns to Stop Gas Exports – BC Pipeline Opposition Reaction!

After proposing the possible measures in the late last week, Alberta Government spoke about the new legislation on Monday, making the province more powerful as it should be by saying that it would stop the supply of natural gas, crude oil, and refined fuels across its borders. It seems like it is giving a warning note!

If the legislation would be successful, the government soon be able to check any company exporting energy products from Alberta to show the authorized license.

All those energy products include natural gas, crude oil, and refined fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Not only the supply and export would be restricted through the pipelines, but also from rail or truck transport.

The minister of energy would give the license as to ensure the public interest. It also checks if the pipelines have enough capacity to have the maximum return on these resources which Alberta is the ground of.

There need to be something very clear that it wouldn’t be easily possible for any company to apply for an export license rather it would only be possible if the minister finds it necessary.

From now onwards, there would be pay and check on the adequate supply, keeping in view Alberta’s needs. If the company gets the license, it would be of a lower amount as compared to the one through which exporting was done previously.

Consideration would also be given to ensuring enough supply is maintained for Alberta’s needs. A license could be issued to a company but for a lower amount than it has previously been exporting.

Strictness would be shown to the companies and individuals not following the terms and conditions of license with a fine of up to 10 million per day and individuals up to $1 million per day. Besides the exports restrictions in Alberta, the import system is not facing any such boundaries.

In a statement, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said the measures are about “protecting the jobs and livelihoods of thousands of Albertans and our ability to keep Canada working.”

Notley said, “Alberta did not start this fight, but let there be no doubt we will do whatever it takes to build this pipeline and get top dollar in return for the oil and gas products that are owned by all Albertans.”
