Cleaning the garage is one of the most important tasks at home. And believe you me, it’s not as easy as it seems, we always turn for this option when the space is fully occupied and boiling. We carry on cramming until the garage itself says, “please, no more”. And with the Christmas season on heads; it could even play worse; which could be a lovely time spending at
different places in Canada!
So how to deal with such a messy garage? Here we have some basic tips that would help you in cleaning the garage properly.
Don’t be lazy:
First things first, be active! Because if you are lazy you will end up with the same, i.e. prolonging it to become a mess and not cleaning it.
Begin with cleaning:
Being organized is really very important when it comes to cleaning. Before doing any efforts for sweeping, organize them in 2 parts; things you want to get rid of and things you want to keep. You can sub divide the first part further into things which would go in the garbage bin and others to put on sale.
By selling them out you can cover the cost of maintenance of your garage. Now for the second part, take them out of the garage. Hatch out a proper plan in your mind before start-up. The basic step would be to clean the whole garage walls, ceilings, floor and everything else. A simple tip for cleaning is to start from the ceiling then come to walls and at lastly the floor. Fix up all the lights. Check out if there is any window or broken door. If a yes, then make sure to repair it in beginning. Make sure that all the hardware is fine and perfect.
For cleaning you can use old towels, sponge, cloths and washing powders. If there are spider’s webs, then urgently remove with the help of a broom. When ceilings and walls are done you will find your floor fully messed up. Start cleaning the floor by the broom from the back and push everything outside. After this find a mop, take a bucket, pour some washing powder, bleach, water mix it up and start mopping. You can also make a mop by using an old pipe and a towel. Mop up the floor and scrub it hard to remove the gunk. If the oil stains are old and not removing, you can use an oil remover. It will pull out stains and then you can brush them out.
Paint the garage:
You might think as why to paint the garage, it’s not a living room. But do you know painting your garage could increase the life of it? I mean it will prevent your garage getting damaged with moisture and cracks. Painting your garage isn’t at all difficult. Just start from the back and cover the entire surface by gradually coming forward towards the door. Color cans are also not very expensive. Choose any of the one of your choice and brighten up your garage and turning it into a real room.
Organizing your garage:
Now comes the main part. When you are done with cleaning and eventually painting your garage right, it’s time to put back what you took out. Ah, might seem like a tiring work but believe me, once you start, there will be no going back.
Hey but wait, there is something left! Before bringing back your items, you need to work on organizing your garage. This probably means try to do arrangements in such a way that your garage looks bigger. For this you need shelves, small cupboards, ceilings and few wooden blocks with ankles which you could fixed over the walls to put small items.
After getting all these things, arrange your items according to long term storage, seasons and frequently used items. At the entire end, put all those things in cupboards that you will need after a long time. For example, documents, old clothes or keepsakes etc.
Next on the fixed hooks over walls, hang your sports items or tools that you require frequently. Small and minor items of daily use could also be placed on wooden rags.
Put the seasoned things in shelves and cupboards. Seasonal items include costumes for Halloween, decorations material for Christmas or lawn care equipment and so on.
Finally, keep all those things that you will need on daily basis like cleaning equipment at the front. These need to be easily accessed whenever required.
Lastly, keep it clean:
Arranging and cleaning is the not only thing that needs attention. Focusing on its maintenance frequently is a big task. So, don’t forget to maintain it from time to time!
