1.     The Severity of the Symptoms.

A runny nose, chest congestion and a sore throat are clear symptoms that you are sick. The flu entails a fever just like the cold. To spot the difference, remember that symptoms of the flu happen to come on quicker than those of the cold and are more severe.

2.     The Ache.

You might experience mild pains and aches with your flu. It’s normal for your muscles and joints to hurt when you have the flu, in your head, back and legs. It may even pain to move, so be prepared.

3.     The Fever.

The flu brings with it many symptoms, the worst of all might be the fever which tends to raise your temperature to 100-102 (can go higher usually for children). This is not normal in a cold, however during influenza the fever can last up to a number of days. Don’t fret though, your body’s a fighter and this is its combat style.

4.     The Sweats and Chills.

Again, this is not common in a cold. The flu can cause chills due the body aches and the fever (even without the fever).

5.     The Weakness.

The flu can keep your down under for weeks, you may even feel wiped out. Tired enough to sleep through an entire day. However, with a cold the weakness can make up bone tired but, only for a few days and isn’t likely to be that extreme.

6.     The Stomach.

Some common but not entirely necessary signs of the flu may include; vomiting, diarrhoea and cramps. It’s not a cold if you are running to the toilet because of all the stirring in your stomach.
