To get your Canada Day pass by greatly, you just need to know what are the areas closed and open.
Open and Closed Areas in Ottawa:
- Many grocery stores, malls and retail outlets in Ontario and Quebec are open Sunday but closed for the holiday Monday.
- Most businesses in the ByWard Market will be open on Sunday.
- The Rideau Centre is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Other malls around Ottawa, including Bayshore and St. Laurent, are also open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday but will close on Monday. Place d’Orleans will only be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and will be closed on Monday.
- All LCBO locations will be open on Sunday but will be closed July 2.
- All Beer Store locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday but closed on Monday.
Open and Closed Areas in Toronto:
- TTC - Typical Sunday service, the holiday Monday will operate under holiday service.
- GO Transit - Typical Sunday schedule, the holiday Monday will run on Saturday schedule.
- Loblaws - Most stores will be open July 1, but will be closed on the holiday Monday. There are some exceptions, as The Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens (60 Carlton St.) will be open regular hours. Check your local store here.
- Sobeys - Most stores will be open July 1 but will be closed on the holiday Monday. Varies by location, check your local store here.
- Longos - Most stores will be open July 1 but will be closed on the holiday Monday. Varies by location, check your local store here.
- Rabba Fine Foods - All locations will be open 24 hours both Sunday and Monday.
- No Frills- Stores will be open July 1 but will be closed the holiday Monday.
- Costco- Stores will be open July 1 but will be closed the holiday Monday.
- Beer Store - Most stores will be open on July 1, closed on the holiday Monday. Some exceptions do apply, check your local Beer Store hours here.

- Pacific Mall - Will be open regular hours both July 1 and 2.
- Dufferin Mall - Will be open 11:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. on July 1, closed holiday Monday.
- Toronto Premium Outlets - Open regular hours on July 1 but will be open 9:30 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. on July 2.
Open and Closed Areas in Montreal:
- Municipal courts are closed across Canada
- All banks are closed.
- Provincial and federal government offices
- Shopping Malls
- Most retail stores will close - bookstores, flower stores, and antique shops can remain open if they choose to.
- Most private sectors will be closed
- Most post offices will be closed - some private sector post offices (pharmacies, grocery stores) can stay open if they choose.
- 311, the city of Montreal's information hotline
- Dépanneurs - hours at owner’s discretion.
- Retail stores and grocery in train stations, tourist destinations, cultural centers, airports, and hospitals remain open.
- Some pharmacies - check your local hours.
- Smaller grocery stores/supermarkets can open for holiday hours at their discretion
- Bookstores, flower stores, and antique shops can stay open.
- SAQ stores will be open unless they're located inside a mall.
- Movie theatres
- Hair salons, restaurants and gas stations can open at owner's discretion.
- Arenas, swimming pools, gyms, and sports centers remain mostly open. Certain sectors will be closed. Consult 311 for more information.
Apart from all these things, the major attractions of the cities will be open. Happy Canada Day with long weakened!
